Morden Slavery Act Statement

Morden Slavery Act Statement

1. Introduction

Base Construction Group Ltd is committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities and its supply chain. We operate with a zero-tolerance approach to any form of modern slavery, ensuring that our business is conducted with the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

2. Our Business and Supply Chain

Based London we provide property maintenance, social housing void turnarounds, and high-end residential renovations across London and Essex. Our supply chain includes:

  • Subcontracted tradespeople (plumbing, electrical, decorating).
  • Material suppliers and merchants.
  • Waste management and haulage services.

3. Our Policies

We have implemented the following policies to identify and mitigate risks:

  • Whistleblowing Policy: We encourage all workers and subcontractors to report any concerns related to the treatment of workers or the presence of forced labour without fear of retaliation.
  • Recruitment & Right to Work: We conduct robust "Right to Work" checks on all direct employees and require the same from our subcontractors to ensure workers are not being exploited.
  • Supplier Code of Conduct: We expect all suppliers and subcontractors to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

4. Due Diligence Processes

As part of our commitment to identifying and mitigating risk, we:

  • Verify Tradespeople: Every subcontractor must provide proof of identity and valid trade certifications.
  • Audit Site Wages: We ensure that all workers on our sites are paid at least the National Living Wage and that payments are made directly into their own bank accounts.
  • Monitor High-Risk Sectors: We recognize that construction is a high-risk industry for labour exploitation and maintain high visibility on our sites to monitor worker welfare.

5. Training and Awareness

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery, we provide information to our staff through:

  • Site Inductions: Briefings on how to spot signs of exploitation (e.g., workers who appear fearful or do not have their own documents).
  • Toolbox Talks: Regular updates for our site teams regarding ethical working practices.

6. Board Approval

This statement has been approved by the Director of Base Construction Group Ltd and will be reviewed annually.
